Can remote work help your company grow and make your employees more productive?
According to an article on CNET, a report put out by the Gallup’s State of the American Worker concluded that “from 2012 to 2016, the percentage of US employees working remotely jumped from 39 percent to 43 percent.”
That’s a fairly significant jump in just four years.
And it’s not just the larger corporations that are allowing remote work. Smaller companies are using remote workers to scale at a more accelerated pace than they would be able to in a more traditional brick and mortar situation.
But, how does this work?
Well, according to case studies presented in the article, one of the problems that businesses face is that most talented people don’t live where the business is located.
Are you looking for a top-level coder, but the one you want lives on the other side of the country? Or, is one of your most valued employees moving to a new city because his wife got a new job?
No problem, they can still work with you remotely using Stormboard.
Won’t employees abuse the freedom that they have?
The new, tech-savvy employee works differently than the average employee did just 10 years ago. Glued to their devices, they answer emails at all hours, do research while on the couch watching TV, or write up reports while sitting in a coffee shop.
Giving employees that live in the same city as your business the opportunity to work when, and where, is best for them will allow for more engagement and ultimately better results from your people.

Trello was a company who went global thanks to remote work, and according to the CNET article, the company gained some key insights. “Trello was able to hire talented people who spoke different languages via remote work. That diversity has a real impact on products. For instance, global remote workers noted that Trello needed a way to handle payments without credit cards. Why? There are multiple markets that don’t procure software via credit cards.”
